Traditionally, shake and shingle
wood roof maintenance has fallen into two categories.
The first is owners who perform periodic maintenance by replacement of
damaged shakes or shingles and pressure-washing the roof every five years or so
to control moss, fungus and debris build-up, depending on the climate. This
process adds a few years to the life of the roof.
The second consists of owners who clean, repair and have chemicals applied
every four to five years that act as a substitute for the natural oils and
protectants, which can extend the life 30-50%, along with proper annual
maintenance.
