Maintenance and Preservation
Maintenance
If a wood roof is not properly maintained, the following problems will occur and lead to a drastically shortened roof life:
|
Moss & fungus growth occur, which retains moisture &
contributes to the rotting, insect infestation & complete
deterioration of the roof
Natural oils leach within three years, causing warping, cracking & splitting of the wood
Lifting & blowing away of shakes & shingles during wind storms
Ultraviolet
rays from the sun will discolor, reduce shingle thickness & burn
through the wood, exposing the felt paper underlayment to the elements
Rain
& snow will erode the wood, promote moss, fungus & leak through
pinholes created by Ultraviolet deterioration described above

Preservation
|
WPC-R5 preservation and protection of your wood roof is a process of
impregnating the wood fiber with a chemical substitute to replace the
natural oils and chemicals that have leached out of the wood due to
sun, wind, rain, snow or any of these natural elements combined. When
these oils and chemicals have been replaced, the wood is less
susceptible to deterioration of the roof and can extend the life 30 to
50%. For maximum roof efficiency, WPC-R5 should be applied every four
to five years, as it is exposed to the weather and leaches from the
wood. Although WPC-R5 can be applied after pressure washing, WPC-R5
cleanses moss and fungus from the roof within 90 to 180 days without
pressure washing. |
